Final – TextAid February 2023 (v 4.13.1)

These are the final release notes for the February 2023 patch release.

Released: 2023-02-24

Discontinuation of the Assignments Feature

Please note that the Assignments feature will be discontinued in the next release, June 2023. If you are still using the Assignments Module, we encourage you to look into the Hand in Documents feature instead. There is information about this in the TextAid user interface.

New Features and Changes

Copy “From” date to “To” date when sharing an exam

Screenshot of the date fields in the document sharing dialog. The same date is filled in to illustrate that the value is copied from one field to the other.

When This is an exam is checked, the value entered in the From date field will be automatically copied to the To date field, since most exams start and end on the same day. If there is already a value in To, it will not be overwritten. #6712

Translation language added

Ukrainian has been added to DeepL translations. #6618

Submitting Texts in Exam Mode

Several changes have been made to submitting text editor tabs in exam mode.

Connect text editor tabs with exam document

Screenshot of tabs in TextAid where two text editor tabs have been opened and are connected with the originally shared exam through their filename.
Text editor tabs are connected to the originally shared exam through their file names. Each text editor tab gets an ordinal number to differentiate them.

All exams must start with a shared exam document, even if it only contains instructions for the student. When a student opens a new text editor tab, it will be associated with the currently open tab. This way, even if multiple tabs are open, they are all connected with each other. The connection is visible in the tab label, where they share the same file name. Text editor tabs get the -Text suffix and an ordinal number. #6717

Submit multiple tabs

Screenshot of dialog window where the student can select which tabs should be submitted as part of the exam.
Dialog window which is displayed when the student submits an exam with multiple tabs open.

When the student clicks the Submit button (with any of the tabs focused) a dialog window is displayed where the student can select which tabs should be submitted as part of the exam. When the exam has been submitted, all tabs will be closed, even those that were unchecked and not included in the submission. This is to ensure the student does not copy and paste parts of the exam and saves for later. #6717

Prevent students from accidentally closing tabs in Exam mode

A screenshot of a dialog window that requires the student to confirm the closing of a tab.

When in Exam mode, if the student clicks on the close button (the X) of a tab, a dialog window is displayed that requires the student to confirm that the tab should be closed. This is to prevent that a tab is closed accidentally, thus potentially causing the student to lose their work. #6720

Automatically submit all tabs when time is up

Screenshot of the message that is displayed when an exam has been automatically submitted after the time is up.
If the exam has not been submitted before the end time, it will be submitted automatically, along with all associated tabs that were open at the time.

The student will get a notification five minutes and one minute before time is up, but if the exam has not been submitted when time is up, it will be submitted automatically. Now that an exam can consist of multiple tabs, all tabs will be submitted along with the shared exam document. When automatically submitting the exam, the student will not be able to choose which tabs should be included, they will all be included. #6718

The teacher receives a notification for each document that was submitted. Each document will be tagged with the student’s name.

Notable Corrections

Missing Annotations

Although this issue is connected to TextAid, it is part of our docReader product. Read more in the preliminary release notes here: Preliminary – docReader February 2023 (v 4.10.1)

Word Prediction and Read text not working in annotations

Screenshot of a text annotation with word prediction active.

This was a configuration issue that has now been resolved. #6744

Changed the default date format for Dutch

The date format has been changed to dd-mm-yyyy for everyone using TextAid in Dutch. #6721

Submit button disappearing after submitting documents

When having multiple documents open in exam mode, for example text editors and shared exams, and submitting one of them previously removed the submit button entirely. This is no longer the case if there is another document open. #6075

Sharing a document with groups can be confusing

Screenshot of document sharing dialog where the information has been updated to better describe what happens when you share with a group.

Sharing a document with a group in effect means sharing with each individual user in the group. This was not entirely clear before, so the help text has been updated to better explain this. #6523
