These are the preliminary release notes for the June 2024 release.
Planned release window: 2024-06-03 – 2024-06-07
New Features and Changes
Download Translated Text as an Audio File
In this release we’re adding a download button in the translation dialog, so that translated text can be downloaded as mp3 audio. #6142
Improved Translation Menu
The translation menu has been limited to one scrollable panel, and it is now possible to filter the languages using a textbox (screenshot on the left). It is now possible to add target languages that are not supported by TTS. Each menu item in the translation menu has an icon that indicates whether any TTS voices are available for that language. #8462
Note: Please contact our support team if you want to have translation languages added that are not supported by TTS.
Placement of the Pop-up Player
It is now possible for users to change the placement of the pop-up player (first screenshot) from the settings panel (second screenshot), under Other Settings. This is handy if the pop-up player accidentally blocks other content on the screen. #8328
Help Button in the Page Mask Controls
A help button has been added to the page mask so that users can go straight to the help section that explains how to use the page mask. The help section explains how to use the keyboard to control the page mask, among other things. #5507
Improved Support for Icelandic
The Icelandic user interface has been updated, and the dictionary feature now uses a new and better dictionary resource when looking up word definitions. #8411 #5261
Support for Reading Slot Content
Slot content is part of the Web component technology and is a way to create placeholders for content that is not visible until the user interacts with it. This content is encapsulated and needs special treatment. webReader will now read slot content. #8489
Notable Corrections
Accessibility: Low Color Contrast
Two places where the color contrast was not high enough have been fixed, an error message icon and the by ReadSpeaker link. #8729
Issue with Placement of docReader Icons
The docReader icons would sometimes not be placed correctly in Moodle and Open LMS. This has now been addressed. #7009
