Release note

Preliminary – TextAid January 2024 (v 4.16.0)

These are the preliminary release notes for the January 2024 patch release.

Planned release window: 2024-01-08 – 2024-01-12

New Features and Changes

Added Support for Gaeilge (Irish Gaelic)

This release brings support for Irish Gaelic in most of the tools in TextAid. Gaeilge will also be added as a user interface language soon. #7777 #7779 #7780

Enhanced Image Quality for Handed in Exams and Assignments

The image quality of pdfs that are created when a user hands in an exam or an assignment has been greatly improved. This was much needed. #6226

Added Error Message when no Voice is Selected

Screenshot showing error message when no voice has been selected when uploading a new document.

It was possible to start uploading a document to the library without selecting a reading voice. An error message was not displayed until the document was already uploaded. This has been changed, so that it’s no longer possible to start the upload without a selected voice. #8038

Make Sure Important Buttons are Displayed in the Library

Screenshot showing the narrower version of the library.

In some languages, the settings and delete button would not be displayed on smaller screens because the text label was too long. This has been resolved by hiding less important columns, if needed. #8041

Added Video to Web Reading Page

There were references to a video in the Web Reading instructions, but no video was present. We have now added a video playlist. #7887

Update the Web Reading Tool

The Web Reading Tool (aka the bookmarklet) has been upgraded to use the latest version of ReadSpeaker webReader (v 3.8). #7524

Notable Corrections

Large Documents no Longer Fail to Open

Large documents (250+ MB) would sometimes fail to open in TextAid, although they could be uploaded to the library. This has been fixed. #8010

Exams are not Immediately Submitted

There were reports of exams that would be automatically submitted right after they were opened. This has been fixed. #8191

Link to Opera Store now Points to Chrome Web Store

Opera users will now install the TextAid browser extension from the Chrome Web Store, since Chrome extensions are natively supported in Opera. #7827

Security Fixes

A number of security fixes have been applied in order to further solidify TextAid and make sure information is secure.
